This week, Vince Vaughn appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman and during his interview was put on the spot about his relationship with Jennifer Aniston. As I reported about a few weeks ago, Aniston and Vaughn have been looking at a home outside of Hollywood to escape the limelight but oddly enough the couple have never confirmed that they were in fact a couple.
So as the interview started, Letterman began by saying “Hey, nice going on that Jennifer Aniston thing.” The thing Letterman is referring to is the new movie the couple has coming out this summer called The Break-Up. Letterman then continued on by saying that he thought him and Aniston made a nice couple. Vaughn who seemed both embarrassed and amused by these remarks responded by thanking Dave and telling both Dave and his audience that he chooses not to talk about his private life. Later in the interview, Vaughn addressed the audience directly asking them the question, “Do you like the way he just kind of takes the approach that its fact?” Letterman than asked him to clarify or confirm the relationship but Vaughn did no such thing. Instead, he said, “I am not saying we are or aren’t a couple. I think she’s great, but I just don’t discuss whether we are.”
Now while I think it’s great that Vaughn and Aniston are trying to keep their relationship out of the public eye, I do think that because they are trying to keep it private the media is focusing on them more than ever. I think for over the past 6 months at least once a week we have a Jennifer Aniston or Vince Vaughn story and the reason why is because they are so hush hush on this issue. So while I think it’s a smart move, I also feel that they are probably more burdened with the issue by not saying anything rather than spilling the beans. But maybe this is all an elaborate plan and they will say they are a couple just a few days or weeks before their movie together is released in order to raise ticket sales. That’s what happened with Mr. & Mrs. Smith which I still think is rather lame movie but hey maybe that is the big plan.
