Cannabis
Cannabis is the most commonly used illicit mind-altering drug in the world. It is classed as 'a minor hallucinogen with depressant qualities'. When smoked or eaten, it has mild mind-expanding, pain killing, and intoxicating effects. Cannabis comes in two main forms, One as "Grass", the dried leaves and female flower heads; and hashish "hash", compressed blocks of resin extracted from the plant. Cannabis is commonly smoked, the effects are relaxation, giggling, dreaminess and also drowsiness and these are felt within minutes of smoking cannabis it also takes about 90 minutes to wear off completely. These effects are subtle and first time users might not detect them. Smoking any drug is unhealthy, cannabis smoke contains more concentrations of carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons than tobacco and is held in the lungs for longer which can result in a larger deposit of nearly 4 times more tar than tobacco. It has been found that Cannabis can have psychological effects such as Paranoia and schizophrenia, which may not be directly linked to the drug itself but if these are underlying problems smoking drugs will just enhance it. Cannabis IS illegal and you can be arrested if: * you are publicly smoking * you've previously offended or been given a warning * you are aged 17 or under * you are close to schools or other 'youth premises'
