I don't even really own one anymore, but texting was amazingly superior to phone calls, cos people can't shout or argue in a text. Well, they can, but not properly, and not in a way that they can hold you up with.
True story.
Also, the only person I know with any one of them is a man with a blackberry.
And he's fine.

I totally disagree. It costs more to have texting as an option on a phone than to just call less. If you didn't have texting, and only had calling as an option, I bet you'd use your phone to contact people much less. Thats because the shit people text isn't that important. If you wanna have a general conversation with someone, talking to them is much more practical and faster (not to mention more meaninful and a reduced chance for mis-communications).
Maybe more practical in the sense that you can text when you shouldn't be talking on your phone, but I hate those people. This girl texts CONSTANTLY while at work (I work in a park with kids, so there are just the 3 of us workers). Its super annoying because she only gives half of her attention because she is busy texting. You wouldn't sit chatting on the phone "shooting the shit" during class or while at work, so you shouldn't text either.
I had to block texting on my phone, because I would get charged 10 cents just for reading something someone sent me (which was always pretty freaking lame anyways).
I think it is sad that people prefere text to voice. Its so hard to read emotion though text.. and if you are arguing with someone through text.. ugh, I just find that so immature and kind of cowardly? Its the easy way of not having to deal with your problems in a mature way. (I guess arguing or fighting in general where yelling is involved is pretty immature anyways).
Maybe once I get texting, I'll change my mind and love it, but I remember when no one texted, and it was nicer to be around the people that now have their phone glued to their hands.

texting seems to be different in american then, in england all phones have a texting option (and we don't get charged to read texts like you wtf????)
i'm on 02 which means every time i add more than £10 to my phone i get free texts to all other 02 numbers for that month, if i top up £15 i get free calls to 02 numbers as well, works very well as practically everyone i know is on 02.
i hate phone calls and i can text pretty fast now so it's practical for me.

Some people have a pay by the minute phone, but mostly everybody has a plan.. like so many minutes per month. Texting is part of most plans (because most people want it), but its cheaper to get a plan without it.

Avery I completely agree with you! When my friend got the iphone last year (when she was 14) she was like oh it's so cool, it does this & that, I was like, 'I dont care what your phone does, for a start my camera is better, my phone looks better, my phone is more reliable, it's got a more intresting name, mine has that new acceleratormon thing (what ever it is) & it didn't cost me as much as a PS3'.
Admitadly I still have the phone as it's on an 18 month contract (runs out 14/9) & then I'll have to get a smart phone thing.
What is it with youthes these days? I'll admit i'm your average yob you see at car clubs because I am part of one (ONE NATION RULS) anyway all they do is claim they're cool because they like radio music (boring) & go on facebook all night, every night.
