Default Should the school placement system be reformed?

The prosecution of a parent has been dropped but how far should parents go to get a child into the best school?

I've never got this. Surely school placement should be done solely on ability, not on location?

That could mean some children having to travel miles from their home, which could be even more awkward if they have siblings at another school.

I think all children should have a place their local school (size permitting), and the parents should apply elsewhere if they want their child to go to a 'better' school. Not too sure how children with disabilities/special needs have their schools allocated, so i guess that would be arranged depending on the situation.

I guess i can see what people mean that some children may be more advanced learners, but I think that should be dealt with within each school, so children's classes are chosen on their ability, not which school they go to.

I think?

Only at grammar schools.

The school i go to admits students in this order
- Special needs students
- Students in government care (foster homes etc)
- Students with brothers or sister already in the school
- Students living closest in a maximum of a 3.5 mile radius.

Seems to work/make sense to me :s Nothing wrong with the way schools are run.

If the child is outside the catchment area the parents should get over it. If a child is going to get good grades they will get them wherever they go. People try too hard to get their children into 'good schools' and in reality theres not a whole lot of difference, in my opinion.
