Coathanger Jesus
Posted on 29th July 2010 04:01PM

A statue of Jesus made out of coathangers is being displayed in Scotland.

Sculptor David Mach created the 9ft tall crucifixion scene and art fabricators Relicarte spent three-and-a-half months crafting the design out of 3000 individually bent hangers.

The artist only saw his work come to life for the first time at the beginning of this week and admits he was a "bit concerned" about it.

He said: "It looks fantastic and I think it's going to be a very photogenic thing. It will be quite dramatic. I hope it all goes well, I'm a bit concerned about it."

The sculpture will now go briefly on public view outside of St. Giles' Cathdral in Edinburgh, before being taken back to the artist's studio until next summer, where it will become part of David's forthcoming exhibition of work based on scenes from the Bible.
